Davi,

Just this last week four kids and I drove from Washington to Sacramento, CA. Not 20 miles into the trip there arose an argument in the back seat. The thought of spending the next 11 hours in the bicker-mobile made me want to turn around and go back home. Instead, I turned around and addressed the back seat, "There is no arguing until we have gone 500 miles." I think that they realized what a long trip it was going to be and decided to be nice to each other. I'm happy to say that we had a pleasant trip, more enjoyable for me because my 17 year old daughter, newly licensed, drove most of the way.

Parenting, like car trips, is an endurance race. Thanks for your encouragement.

If you ever get a complete grip on teenagedom you can name your price. Of course this comes from a person who never wants to get above 3rd and 4th grade level.

Personally, my triathlon consists of running to the barn to feed the cows, wheeling the firewood to the house and diving into the shower of WARM water. Sometimes I exchange the wheeling firewood for reading a good book.

Baby fat has not been a problem for 50 years, but old man fat, well, that's another story. And I may someday tell it.
